Mississippi Goin' By
- Steve Haskin, (with Clint Hoover and Mark Briere)
Guitarist
Steve Haskin has lived near the Mississippi since moving to the Twin
Cities in 1980. Steve has hiked the banks of the river from Minneapolis
to Hastings and those walks inspired the music on his latest recording,
Mississippi Goin' By. Steve's first CD Boundary Waters,
inspired by the northern wilderness was soft and pastoral, but for
a recording about the great river, Steve wanted a different sound.
"The Mississippi, for me, means history. I wanted to write music that
sounded like it came from the past, so I chose my old friends Clint
Hoover on the harmonica and Mark Briere on the mandolin. I think the
music accomplishes my goal of honoring the river I so love." |

| "Each
song is a wonderful excursion into the inner space created by strings
on fine wood and the soft wail of an old harp." |

| "Steve
Haskin's guitar pieces really do evoke the sense of an afternoon on
the banks of the Big Muddy, with subtle references to the many musics
that that border the Mississippi." |

| "Just
one listen makes it easy to imagine the bright and breezy summer days
that must have inspired it. Its an album that belongs on a summer
vacation - pack it with your fishing rod and your cooler full of cold
ones." |
